The golden jellyfish – Mastigias papua etpisoni
Micronesia, Palau (Jellyfish Lake)
It’s an indescribable feeling to swim caressed by thousands of jellyfish almost without stinging nematocysts. The evolution in this salt lake, isolated from the ocean, in almost total lack of preys, has led this subspecies of Mastigia papua to primarily get energy from the photosynthesis of its symbiotic microalgae (zooxanthalla).
